DESIGN CONCEPTS

As a mechanical engineer at Design Concepts, I drove projects from brainstorming and concept generation through to technical execution and manufacturing handoff.

OTHERLAB

My time spent at Otherlab was filled with electric hydrofoils, inflatable vehicles, hybrid bikes, lasers, water jets and computational fabrication.

HANGBOT

Inspired by Der Kritzler, this wall plotter consisted of a pen suspended by two fine wires and controlled by stepper motors.

PUREWATER TRIKE

Targeted at remote communities, this tricycle adapter allows people to pump water at the source and transport it home efficiently.

WOODWORKING

A perfectx blend of art and engineering, woodworking fulfills that part of me that loves a finely crafted piece of functional art.

LICHTENSTEIN

A little bit of coding and a lot of lasers creates some really cool, large scale pieces of art.

BIOSAND FILTERS IN ECUADOR

In 2013, two friends and I travel to Coastal Ecuador to install a demo biosand filter at the Lalo Loor Nature Reserve.

2D ARTWORK

A collection of various pieces of art.

THE GRAND TRAVERSE

Starting at Midnight in the middle of March, my friend Sarah and I set off from Crested Butte, CO to cover 40 miles on our skis through the mountains, arriving in Aspen 15 hours later.

6 AXIS COOKIE ROBOT

Sure, you could ice cookies by hand…or you can use a 6 axis robot…

LUNCH CART TRACKER

Instead of waiting for the company email about leftovers in the office, a motion tracker installed in the base of the table carrying them, lets me know ahead of time.

OFFICE PACKAGE NOTIFIER

In order to get packages the moment they arrive in the office, I setup a notification system by the front door that alerts each employee when their package arrives.

CANDYPOOPER

Answer a trivia question and receive a treat. This project was part of an effort to help connect DCI’s SF and MSN offices and get to know each other a little better.

BBQ SAUCE 3D PRINTER

A syringe based liquid 3D printer prototype that was built from the remains of an old Stratasys machine.

S2SF

When moving from Madison to San Francisco, I decided do it by way of Seattle, and on my bike.

PROGRESS GARDENS

A collaboration with the optimization lab and the art department, I helped build a rotating platform for doing time lapses of microgreens.

MULTICAM TIMELAPSE

When in a pinch to find the right software, sometimes you’re better off just writing it yourself. This program let me take 4 timelapse videos with different webcams at the same time.

OSTRICH NEST

A tool I wrote to help visualize and navigate where the data intensive files are located on my computer so I could free up some space.

 BUGLE

A raspberry pi based python program that played entrance music when it detected a bluetooth signal based on the signal’s address.

IMAGE PROCESSING

Once the hardware was built for the Hangbot, it needed to know how to draw some cool stuff.

RECYCLE CLOCK

With a 100 hours and a bunch of old recycled materials, I entered this art clock in a competition while in University.

‘BELIEVE ME’ ART SHOW

The Hangbot pretending it knows how to blend into an art gallery.

 EL WIRE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

For design week in Madison, MMoCA hosts a show that a team at Design Concepts entered, including a pulsing EL display that I created.

TECHNOLOGY ART

Various pieces and projects I worked on over the years with different mediums.

UNDERGRAD PROJECTS

A couple projects from my Senior Design course work.

ENGINEERS WITHOUT BORDERS

A deep passion of mine and area of interest that has permeated into my professional life, engineering for the developing world was a big part of my undergraduate experience.

1975 VW BUS

My prized possession.
