From my first semester at UW Madison, I have been working with the University's chapter of Engineers Without Borders with our Haiti Program. Partnered with the community of Bayonnais, in Northwest Haiti, I've helped lead a subgroup researching and prototyping latex concrete roof segments. The design was intended to replace thick concrete slabs that are difficult to pour and dangerous in the event of a collapse, as seen in the 2010 earthquake. Additionally, during my Junior and Senior years, I took on responsibility as the EWB Financial Manager, coordinating and recording the funds and transactions of the 5 different EWB projects. Unfortunately, the Haiti project was forced to conclude before implementation of the roof segments, because of the University's policy on State Department's travel advisory, but I have since been involved with the selection and development of a new project in Tanzania.
